Google+ for Dummies

Getting a Google+ Invitation

I’ve been recently asked by many people how to get Google+ invitations. Unlike many people think, it is actually very straightforward. You don’t need to buy an invitation on Ebay out of utter desperation, or wait for someone to invite you to join.

Simply go to and join this new feature. It will literally take you 1 minute. All you need is to create a public Google profile by providing the following information:

-       First name, Last name, Gender, Date of birth (hidden to other users), Photo

One important thing to mention is that Google only wants real people, so if you add a fake details, your public Google profile will be deleted.

Once you have completed your one minute free registration process, your public profile page would look like this:

All about circles

You can then add people to the default circles at Google+ (Friends, Family, Acquaintances, Following). But crucially, you can create new circles, for instance the name of your company.

What happens next?

After you have signed up for Google+ and started adding people to your circles, your search engine results pages will start to be more personalized. With suggestions and comments from people you know or have added. You will see a thumbnail with their picture profile next to pages they have +1, videos, photos or comments they have shared appearing in between your search results pages.

Impact on search

Google’s +1 is officially a new SEO ranking factor, so not only it is recommended to get on it from a personal point of view, but if you are a website owner or webmaster, it is highly recommeded that  you include a Google +1 button on your website. This will very likely increase CTR on your site, and positively affect both your Paid and Organic search results. Participation in Google+ is effective way to share your content with an audience with a higher than average propensity to +1 content.

So, if you are still not on Google+, it is never too late to jump on it.
