Social Media Week | What’s next… in blogging

Last week saw Glasgow host Social Media Week 2011 and what a week it was. Glasgow was the largest event of all the 12 cities and the largest single social media gathering ever held outside of the USA.

Bigmouthmedia held their Social Media Week event, What’s next… in blogging, at the trendy Blythswood Square Hotel. The evening kicked off with our keynote speaker Andrew McCormick , deputy editor of Marketing magazine and editor of Revolution magazine. Andrew gave us his thoughts on the coming age of influence. Whether we like it or not, services such as PeerIndex and Klout are ranking our online influence. Andrew debated the growth in importance of online influence and what role blogging and social media are now playing.

Andrew’s speech was followed by bigmouthmedia’s ‘what’s your mission statement?’ word game which saw the three teams come up with some interesting team names including, blue sky thinking, Team Wolf and The big Sexy A+.  The winning mission statement came from Team Wolf with unanimous votes by the judges.

Team Wolf’s victorious mission statement was:

The sexy insightful social masters communicate bombastic viral rocking content in real time. RESULT!

Next it was time to break out and debate our blogging-specific issues accompanied with wine and QR Coded cupcakes;

  • How should brands and blogs work together?
  • Are microblogging platforms killing blogging?
  • Paid vs unpaid blogging – what type of incentives are acceptable?

Overall the night was a great success with extensive tweeting ( #SMWbmm ) and interesting conversation, the event even made it into a fashion blog, thankfifi, the very next day.

A massive thank you to everyone who came – look out for pictures of the night on our Facebook page and don’t forget to check out the bigmouthmedia blog for a round up of all our #SMWbmm posts. We hope to see you at the next bigmouthmedia event.
