The annual A4U Expo has been and gone, and we are delighted to say that the bigmouthmedia affiliate team attended both days and found it to be another hugely successful event. With informative and interesting sessions during the two days and plenty of networking events to meet affiliates and catch up with contacts in the industry, it is an event not to be missed!
The venue this year was the Hilton Metropole hotel, and we very much enjoyed the change of location from Excel where it has been held the past few years. The hotel was lovely, and a big bonus to be able to stroll down from your room straight to the conference rooms to make the most of the event.
Some of the most interesting sessions we attended were:
- The Webgains Speed-Networking: What a fantastic way to meet all types of affiliates. Stephen, Derek, David and the rest of the guys at Webgains hosted the event and cleverly selected the attendees of the sessions so that there was a healthy mix of merchants, agencies and affiliates. We each got 2 minutes to have a quick chat around all things affiliate, exchange contact details and nibble on some snacks. It is amazing how much you can cram into just two minutes. What came from this was a variety of new contacts and a bunch of ideas which all in all made this a very beneficial experience!
- The Agency Head Grill: This session brought together a variety of agency heads including Ewan Darby, Simon Bird, Ginj Pall & our very own Fiona Robertson in the form of a panel to be grilled by not only Matt Bailey, who moderated the panel, but also the attendees who managed to prompt some answers from their inquisitive tweets. An interactive session which helped confirm the value that a lot of agencies add to affiliate programs
- Copywriting for Conversion: A fantastically engaging session from Dr Karl Blanks. This session provided an insight into the Conversion Rate Experts success and the tools and skills they used to achieve this. Throw in some handy tips & case studies of their prestigious clients and you’ve got yourself one hell of a session
- Looking Beyond the Sale to Value Attribution: This session hosted by Helen Southgate and Matt Swan provided us with a variety of very interesting stats. One of the most interesting points was made against the different affiliate models which in turn highlighted the potential work on a Post Impression & Post Click basis. Helen mentioned that by working with affiliates on a variety of models could help justify the use of tenancies with selected affiliates.
It was great to catch up with our contacts at the networks, and we particularly enjoyed the comfy seats and complimentary drinks from the Digital Window stand. However the highlight for us was the pick and mix sweeties available from the Webgains stand. Understandably, it was continuously popular throughout the event!
All in all a fantastic couple of days. If you are involved in the industry and have not attended A4U – why not!?
